Flexible & Scalable
Collaborative, to meet your needs
Your systems rely on geometry. Optimize it!
Something old.
Something new.
Wherever you go...
The trust you place in the tools of your trade -- be they machine tools, measuring devices, medical or research instruments -- is likely rooted in their geometry. New equipment requires careful alignment during installation. But, guidance systems wear and sag over time. Small errors due to maintenance adjustments slowly accumulate. Floors and footings can settle, shift, and crack; your equipment could suffer permanent damage. In any case, your reputation will suffer as a consequence.

Used equipment can be a great way to build your enterprise at lower cost. But, buyer beware! Old equipment can be damaged when it is removed from its original site, while cleaning and repainting does not restore precision to a worn device. Reputable dealers will cooperate with pre-purchase inspection, allowing you to make an informed decision about your investment.
...you'll find optical alignment techniques in play. Precise alignment is necessary whether the equipment is mobile or not! Here, optical alignment methods are used to set up the propeller drive-line of a ship under construction.

Our Services
These a few examples of the services we offer. We're flexible, and can create solutions to fit your requirements.

Machine tools
Make the most of your investment by maximizing its performance and its useful life.
Do you undertake re-work of expensive, rare, or irreplaceable devices? Misaligned equipment is a legal liability. Don't leave things to chance: alignment removes guesswork while increasing productivity.

Surface Plate Calibration
Your surface plate (traditional or as the base of your CMM) is the basis of all measurements as well as your in-house verification and and calibration. Calibration of your surface plate to comply with GGG-P-463C is recommended at intervals not exceeding 2 years. Your clients may demand more frequent inspection. Of course, this sort of calibration also applies to the beds of milling machines, grinders, and so forth.

Calibration of precision optics
PeregrinePrecision has the skill and instrumentation with which to test and adjust all of our working instruments. We also perform optical calibrations as a service. We can measure angles to an accuracy of ~ 0.1 seconds of arc ( about 0.0005 inches at a distance of 100 feet! )

Surveying of large castings and weldments
We are able to perform geometric and dimensional surveys of large devices, both before and after machining operations. On-site line-boring and similar operations can benefit from our techniques!

Stationary Engines & more
Large stationary engines, such as this Caterpillar 3616, are usually rebuilt on-site. Surveying on-site assures that bearing journals are coaxial, that decks and blocks are flat, and so forth. Of course, this results in predictably excellent rebuilding results and the longest possible service life.
A ship's propulsion systems also falls into this category, along with a wide range of electric-motor-driven devices such as pumps, crushers, pulverizers...etc.
Roller Alignment
Rollers are ubiquitous in the paper, plastic, and printing industries. Imperfect alignment causes stretching, ripping, and loss of registry — major cause of down-time and lost product.
Saw and Planing Mills
Put away your taught wires and other stop-gap measures. Optical alignment of blades and guiding systems decreases wood waste while increasing energy efficiency. Wear-and-tear and maintenance-related labour is reduced, as is the cost of regulation-compliant disposal of the wood waste. Environmental sustainability along with additional board-feet of lumber means increased profit — now that's a win-win situation!

Where we work
We get around! Our peregrinations focus on western Canada and US states west of the Mississippi.

Easy to understand reports
We want to be sure that you understand the nature of the work done, and we want to clearly convey the results of our work. Most often, the results are expressed as graphs depicting the before-and-after geometry of your equipment.
Reports tailored to your needs
Digital and / or paper reports
Professional technical writing and layout

We use the finest, world-renowned optics. After all, seeing is believing!

Our fees
Our fees are based on many factors, including instrument and personnel transport, travel time, time on-site, complexity of the tasks, and the client's desired level of precision for the work at hand. After a thorough discussion of your needs, we can proffer budgetary estimates and quotes.
